The nearest airport is Spokane International Airport (GEG) in Washington state, an approximately 1.5 hour drive from the ranch (70 miles). Airlines flying into Spokane include Alaska, United, Delta, Southwest, Horizon, and other major airlines.

If you’re flying in to Spokane International Airport (GEG) it’s best to schedule your flights to arrive between 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, if possible. The drive is approximately 1.5 hours from the Spokane International Airport (GEG), and about 1 hour from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. With Sunday check-in being between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm, you’ll arrive at the ranch in time for appetizers and happy hour before dinner. You’ll have several options for transportation to the ranch, including a rental car, taxi service or rideshare service such as Lyft or Uber.

Car Rental

Many guests prefer to rent a car as their mode of transportation. You can visit the Spokane International Airport website to see a list of car rental companies at the airport. The rental cars are located right outside the airport terminal, so there is no dreaded car rental shuttle that drives you to another location. It’s super fast and easy. You pick up your keys right at the rental desk, head out to your car to load up, and you’re on your way!

Pro tip #1: Consider using Avis for your rental company. Spouses are automatically covered drivers with Avis, so no extra paperwork. You can also sign up for Avis Preferred (it’s free). They have a separate (much shorter) line at the rental desk. When you arrive they check your ID, hand you the keys and you’re off! It’s a no brainer. Other companies may have similar offerings.

Pro tip #2: Try a full size truck for parties of 5 or less. It’s usually cheaper than an SUV, has a large backseat, plenty of space for luggage in the truck bed and 4-wheel drive if needed.

Payless Airport Shuttle

You can call then directly at 208-762-7433 or click this link to visit them online to submit a quote request. Their Dodge Grand Caravans are marked with “Payless Airport Shuttle” on both sides and the rear.  Guests can expect a call or text from the driver shortly after arrival to help locate the shuttle.

Pricing for two passengers one-way is $160, plus an additional $20 per added passenger, for up to 6 total passengers. A 10-person van is also available at $50 per seat. Payments are handled directly with the driver upon arrival to your destination.  They accept cash, check or Venmo at this time.  Additional tidbits: non-smoking, stow-n-go available for larger luggage, no cancellation fees (as of now), child seats not offered but vehicles accommodate them if you are traveling with one.

Taxi Service

Scott’s Taxi has drivers who know how to get to the ranch. You can call them directly at 208-704-6663 or 208-667-6664. The vehicles are mini-van style and 5 passengers is tight if there is ample luggage. Families of 5 or more will need to book multiple shuttles. The fee for the shuttle is handled directly with the driver by cash or card. This cost is $175 per vehicle, one way for the first 2 passengers. Extra passengers are $20 each, with a maximum of 5 (children included) or 4 adults.

Upon your arrival at the airport, gather your luggage and meet your driver located in the TAXI service area outside the baggage claim. The shuttle vehicles are black or white and will be clearly marked, “Scott’s Taxi” in yellow. The fee for this shuttle is handled directly with the driver by cash or card.

Rideshare Service (Lyft and Uber)

These popular companies are also an option. Many of their drivers have not made the drive to the ranch before, so be sure the driver knows it’s a longer than normal drive.  Also, it’s a good idea to have the route mapped out ahead of time as cell phone service becomes spotty the closer you get to the ranch.

For 20+ Passengers

Please contact the ranch directly for information about these services by calling (888) 689-9680 or email [email protected].

We often have guests fly in a day or two early for sightseeing. Click here to see the list of hotels that offer transportation from Spokane International Airport. We recommend any of the airport hotels (Ramada Inn Spokane Airport, Wingate by Wyndham, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn). A more luxury stay would be the Davenport Hotel and Towers in Spokane, WA or at the Coeur d’Alene Resort in downtown Coeur d’Alene, ID. If you chose the Ramada, let them know you are with Red Horse Mountain Ranch and use discount code “L03” for a reduced rate.

Although Spokane and Coeur d’Alene have their appeal, we recommend visiting the charming small town of Harrison, Idaho just a few miles from the ranch. It has lodging, the famous Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bike path along the lake, bike rental shop, boat rental, shopping, a delicious creamery, coffee shops, restaurants, and music on the weekends. Harrison is right on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene and it’s a great place to spend a day or two.

Location & Maps

Red Horse Mountain Ranch is approximately 28 miles south of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, roughly a 1 hour drive along the Coeur d’Alene Lake Scenic Byway, Highway 97. The ranch is located near the eastern shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, a few miles from the town of Harrison, Idaho. The nearest airport is the Spokane International Airport (GEG), an approximately 1.5 hour drive from Red Horse Mountain Ranch.

On your way in or out of the ranch, we have some interesting local secrets we would recommend if you have extra time in the area, maybe while you’re waiting for a flight or if you have an early arrival. Now these aren’t the typical tourist spots, so be prepared for local flavors. Give us a ring at (888) 689-9680 or email [email protected] and we will fill you in.

The Lake Coeur d’Alene Scenic Byway passes through an area where the lakes, mountains, and beautiful summer weather combine to make one of the most amazing summer playgrounds and resort destinations in the Pacific Northwest. If you’re leaving or entering the ranch from the north, you’ll have to travel this route. It’s also home to a variety of wildlife roaming the pristine forests of Northern Idaho, including moose, deer, elk, bear and several bird species.

Beginning at the junction of Interstate 90 and Idaho 97, the route travels south along the eastern shoreline of Lake Coeur d’Alene, home to bald eagles and the largest population of nesting osprey in the Western states. Take a break and stretch your legs on the Mineral Ridge Trail, which offers panoramic views of the lake, as well as several learning stations describing the area’s botany and animal life.

Shortly after leaving I-90, you’ll see Mineral Ridge Trailhead on the right-hand side of the road. It’s approximately 3 miles from I-90. Mineral Ridge features a 3.3-mile interpretive loop trail which is designated as a National Recreation Trail. The loop is known as a “classroom in the forest”, where a self-guided trail takes visitors through the native animal and plant communities. The trail also offers spectacular views of Lake Coeur d’Alene, which requires some elevation climbs, so expect the kids may need a little extra positive reinforcement.

THE BEER LOVER’S DREAM

With 62 rotating taps from breweries around the globe, Crafted features a beer list that is second to none.  Crafted Tap House is at the epicenter of the local beer scene and always has a wide variety of beers on tap from several local breweries.  Each member of the bar staff has formal Cicerone training so they are more than prepared to educate customers about the continually growing world of craft beer.  From beer experts to beer novices, they guarantee customers will enjoy one of the many options available on tap. If you’ve got a hungry crew on the way in or out of the ranch, The Moon Time Eatery and Pub hit the list because it’s a favorite of our staff. No fries, or greasy fast foods, but more of an eclectic, homemade hamburger joint and pub, located in downtown Coeur d’Alene. Don’t worry, the menu is diverse, including fresh salads and much more. Moms will be happy. With amazing microbrews and other famous beers on tap, and a great kids meal, we have to give Moon Time two thumbs up! The lamb burger has been known to cure jet lag (for our European guests). Don’t expect high end, it’s more of a local hangout. Enjoy! [Google Maps Link]

Cabela’s is always a great place to outfit the entire family for your adventures, with good prices, sizes for all ages, excellent service and a top-notch warranty. The Post Falls, Idaho location is on the way to the ranch coming from the Spokane International Airport. If you’re looking for a last-minute jacket, a pair of hiking boots, cowboy boots, or anything else for your trip, stopping here is a must. Give an extra tip to your shuttle driver and we’re sure they’ll accommodate you. The ranch and its employees use Cabela’s frequently, and it’s a convenient stop for those looking to fill last minute needs. [Google Maps Link]

This portion of the Olympian Hiawatha route has been called one of the most breathtaking scenic stretches of railroad in the country. The “crown jewel” of rail-to-trail mountain bike trails is operated by Lookout Pass Ski Area which is located adjacent to I-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line, 12 miles east of historic Wallace, Idaho.

The Hiawatha Trail is typically open daily from around May 30 thru October 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Call ahead to make sure. Every year the snowpack is different so opening dates change. Winding through 10 tunnels and 7 high trestles, this 15-mile route crosses the rugged Bitterroot Mountains between Idaho and Montana.

The Route of the Hiawatha is best known for the long, dark St. Paul Pass, or Taft Tunnel, which burrows for 1.66 miles under the Idaho/Montana state line. With an incredible history beginning in 1906 of construction, hardships and calamities, unprecedented electrification, and of carrying passengers and freight from the Northwest to the Midwest, generations of railroaders kept the Milwaukee Road running until it finally went bankrupt in 1977.

The last train west of Butte, Montana passed through in 1980. After that, the line was abandoned. With government funding and private donations, the rails were removed, and the construction of this spectacular wilderness bicycle and hiking trail was undertaken in 1997. The Idaho portion of the trail first opened for public use on May 29, 1998. The St. Paul Pass, or Taft Tunnel, was completed in May of 2001 and is now open for bike riding.
