Red Horse Mountain Ranch isn’t just a dude ranch—we’re also a licensed hunting outfitter. With nearly 600 acres of private land and guiding permits covering thousands more in the Panhandle National Forest (via the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management), we offer an unforgettable hunting experience.
We specialize in hunting Rocky Mountain Elk and Merriam Turkey in Hunt Unit 3 (Panhandle Elk Zone):
- Elk Hunts: Archery (September) | Rifle (October)
- Turkey Hunts: Spring season (mid-April to mid-May)
The Experience
Your base camp is our main lodge and guest cabins, where you’ll enjoy hearty meals and comfortable accommodations after a hard day’s hunt. We hunt hard—then eat and sleep like royalty.
Hunting elk in this region requires navigating tough, densely vegetated terrain, so good physical condition is essential. Be prepared to carry a pack with gear, water, and your weapon. If you have questions about fitness requirements, availability, or pricing, give us a call!
Non-Resident Tag Options
Big game tags are required for non-resident hunters. You can secure a tag in several ways:
- Purchase Your Own Tag (December Sale) – Non-resident elk tags sell out fast, so plan ahead.
- Outfitter-Allocated Tags – The ranch can apply for these in April. If awarded in mid-July, you’ll be notified. A refundable deposit is required at the time of application.
- Returned Tag Sales – Occasionally, tags become available throughout the year.
Pricing
- Elk Hunt: $4,900 (5 days, 6 nights) + license, tags, tax & gratuity (TBD)
- Turkey Hunt: $2,000 (3 days, 4 nights) + license, tags, tax & gratuity (April 15-May 25, 2025)
